Lightband Wines was originally named
after the nearby roadway leading into the Brightwater area.

Subsequently the broader history surrounding the name and its Nelson links became apparent and have become intertwined with the Company.

The Lightband family were amongst the first settlers to arrive in the Nelson region on the sailing ship "Thomas Harrison". from England in 1842.

They soon settled in the Brightwater area and became leaders in the commercial and agricultural development of the region. Lightband road on the main highway adjacent to Brightwater town recognises the contribution of these hardy and resourceful pioneers in the development of New Zealand.
The Company is owned and managed by Simon Prattley who planted grapes in the Brightwater area in the late 1990’s.
